Our Projects

At Urban Foods, our work goes beyond simple commerce. We are involved in several long-term projects aimed at preserving Himalayan agricultural heritage and improving the health of our urban community.

1. The “Orchard-to-Table” Initiative

This is our flagship project based in Shopian. We are mapping out small-scale heritage orchards that still use traditional, non-industrial farming methods.

  • Goal: To eliminate long storage times and chemical preservatives.
  • Impact: By sourcing directly, we ensure you receive nuts and dates within weeks of harvest, retaining their natural oils and nutrients.

2. Himalayan Women’s Empowerment

Many of our sun-dried products and hand-sorted nuts are processed by local women’s collectives in Ratnipora.

  • Goal: To provide sustainable, fair-wage employment to women in the Shopian district.
  • Impact: Supporting this project helps preserve the artisanal skills of hand-sorting and traditional spice grinding that machines simply cannot replicate.

3. The “Pure Urban” Education Series

We are on a mission to educate urban consumers about the dangers of highly processed, additive-filled snacks.

  • Goal: Creating transparent content that compares industrial snacks to natural Himalayan whole foods.
  • Impact: Helping our customers make informed decisions for a healthier, chemical-free lifestyle.

4. Sustainable Packaging Transition

  • Goal: To ensure that the purity of our food is matched by the sustainability of its container.
  • Timeline: We aim to complete this transition by the end of 2026.
